What I was getting at was that in a game where people identify with their clans to the degree that they do in L5R (and they do, or they wouldn't rag on Spider so much), it'd be nice if they had the wherewithal to realize that there are people playing the game running those spider decks on the other side of the table. It may sound silly, but a lot of people who have been with the game a while tend to conflate the story side of spider with the playerbase (probably not intentionally), and the way it's expressed is often brusque at best. I brought this up just because seeing a thread that is essentially "haha I'm so glad spider are losers" was basically the straw that broke the camel's back. I apologize that I decided to unload here, but you have no idea how disheartening it is when multiple people dump on you for doing good with your clan one arc, then faux-pity you (see that kyuden mantis post) when you're doing bad the next arc.

I guess the best way I can put it would be that if the tables were turned, I would find a similar thread on the spider boards in equally bad taste.

Also, I realize you have to have thick skin to a certain degree to play a competitive game, but I'm pretty sure someone just combo-+likened sympathizing with spider to being a child molester apologist, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm a little bit flabbergasted

Nothing that bad dude. Just some Crabby anti-Shadowlands sentiment. Barely a mention about actual Spider players, and certainly no hate for the players of the Clan. Just the Clan... you know, the fictional entity of blighted curs.

And you certainly won't find some fake pity here. You won't be calling us two faced. Because as you said, people relate to their Clans. And the Crab hit tainted things with blunt objects. It's the Clan's purpose.

You might be reading too much into things here. But there's no hate for the players. It's just that the Spider Clan stands for everything that the Crab Clan has fought against since its creation. And as you say, people relate to their Clans... so Crab Players will rag on the tainted faction.

I think the problem is, aside from that one godwin's law post, this thread has been mostly within the acceptable levels of spider hate. In character hate for faction is fine, but ive heard of and read alot of accounts of people legit being mad over spider even existing as a faction. Like, look at the Kyuden Mantis post linked. To be honest, even as a crab player who quite frankly doesn't mind them doing poorly in story becuase they're our natural enemies, I really do find it quite unsettling the way some really do transfer this hate over to the out of character existance of the faction/it's player base as well. Again, it really isn't on here as much as other places, becuase these boards continue to be the most chill of the l5r boards, but in other places its gotten quite awkward at times.

I don't really see that. Probably because I mostly hang here and a little at the Kobune Port, where that shit won't fly.

I have no gripes about the Spider playerbase personally. They have proven to be one of the most resourceful and enthusiastic playerbases whose relatively small size is only rivaled by the Phoenix playerbase. They are quite personable and impressive in the ways they've managed to affect the main story relatively well despite the distinct lack of storyline tourney wins at times since their inception.

My gripe about the Spider clan only goes as far as I can relate to my chosen clan and the story is concerned which is long and doesn't need to be repeated here.
