first crab deck (berzerkers inside)

Postby MDC12 » Sat Aug 18, 2007 4:13 pm

First crab deck, this is my first one since a lot of time, please comment, and keep in mind I am just a beginner, not a tournament player.

Stronghold : The seventh tower

-Dinasty 40

Personalities 22

1* Hida kuon exp 5
1* Hida daizu exp
1* Hida Sozen exp
1* hida Rikyu exp
3* Hida kozan
3* Hida Takuji
3* Hida Yaheiko
3* Hida Ikkaku
3* Hida Genichi
2* Hiruma Aki (thinking of replacing him with Hida Hiyao to take advantage of the hero trait with the 1st shout)
1* Kyoso no Oni exp 3 (please don't flame me for this)

Events 4

1* Wisdom gained
1* Winter storm
1* Winter warfare
1* A new wall

holdings 14

3* Iron mines
3* secluded waystation
3* secluded village
3* supply oupost
1* Seat of power
1* supply smuggler

-Fate 40

Actions 26

3* Sneak attack
6* Shout of defiance
3* Shout of victory
3* A test of courage
2* Inner fire
3* Hired killer
3* Spearhead
3* Retribution

Attachments 11

1* koutetsu Kabe
1* Tao of fu leng
3* Daruma
3* Blade of hubris
3* Kumade

Elemental rings 3

1* Ring of earth
1* Ring of water
1* Ring of air

The plan is :
-Turn 1 : 1 holding (supply outpost if possible)
-Turn 2 : 1 personality with higher strength possible (and an attachment if supply outpost on turn 1)
-Turn 3 : Attach item if not done yet with supply outpost, then attack.

To be honest : I am not really self confident in a blitz deck that does not start the game, but I want to try it (back to time when waterzerks ruled upon the places of the earth  ). It's true that this deck realy lacks battle action cards. The problem is every time I try to really stand in battle playing battle actions against lions I loose. I am tired about it.
The idea is to blitz on turn 3 with a personality taking advantage with the box action (hope to have a sneak attack in hand  ) to get rid of enemy presence, play shouts If I lack strength or if I need to go through outer walls. Against bowing tech : inner fire and ring of air. Against send home tech : A test of courage (I don't see better) and ring of water . Against force reduction tech : shouts. On my turn 3 dinasty, only 1 holding I will be able to buy (two if I equiped my personality with supply outpost on turn 2). If I succeed to take the province In order to make it work I need to limit enemy presence on the table. I can do so by always attacking provinces where a personality is face up, using the box action, try to play hired killer (not easy when I lack the gold, though). Never defend when attacked, always try to perform retribution to keep the pressure (Spearhead + retribution).

That is a very minimalist simple strategy, do or die. If I fail to take my first province on turn three I am nailed to the cross  . Simple, but that's the way I like it.

A couple of things... Not a flame but why are you playing kyoso? There are so many crab or non crab personalites that are really more useful. If you do want to try out some dark crab types go with Wareta no Oni and throw in some iron tetsubo's Wareta no Oni plus iron tetsubo means a 17f personality for a total of 13 gold and two cards. It seems like your a little event and ring heavy, but I guess that's a playstyle thing. Also you might consider seiden sanzo for holdings. I'ts pretty good both for heroes and jumping people...

"Kyoso no oni exp3" does not seem a so bad card to me. When I manage to get it out of my province (not easy with the lack of gold) I can kill an enemy personality and limiting enemy presence is always good. It's a 4th hired killer...and...may be I am mistaken, but as I read the card, killing one of my personality to make kyoso enter play seems to be an "effect", not a cost, if it's the case I can see good things to do with Hida yaheiko, sozen exp, and daizu exp. All right, I can be mistaken and playing an expensive personality is may be not a good idea in a blitz deck, but it's just a unique card. I will test it if it appears I fail to buy it too often, I will exchange it for something else. I am worried about crabs flaming me for corrupting my deck though  Crabs don't like corruption, do they ?

The events :
-"A new wall" : this card often fails to come at the right time but it's as if I was playing a 4th supply outpost, so it seems good to me. Supply oupost on turn 2 means I will have one more holding to buy things in my turn 3 dinasty phase, as I don't need to buy an attachment before the turn 3 attack.
-"Winter storm" : It can help me to limit enemy presence in battle, remember I don't have a lot of battle action cards to play. Ideally I don't want more than one personality opposing my berzerkers as basically, I can just kill one with the box action.
-"Winter warfare" : with all battle movements in samurai edition (doomed intention, and other "jump into the battle cards") I think it's really good. And it also prevents my adversary to send my peeps home.
-"Wisdom gained" : it helps me to get the ring of earth in hand, especially in the begining of the game with a turn three province. Ring of earth is definitively good for "retribution".

Sure, playing too much events can be bad when every one plays forwarning...
I can see two things against anti-event : 1- dont play events as their effect will not resolve, just make anti events dead cards in the hand of the enemy. 2- play a lot of them as when one has been cancelled, others have better chances to work. Here I have opted for the second option (may be not the best one).

-Ring of air : don't see that as a ring, just a good card to play against bow tech (if not the best available).
-Ring of water : don't see that as a ring (again), just a good card against send home (better than the 3 "test of courage" I play).

-seiden sanzo : very good idea, but I don't have any at the moment. I'll try it as soon as possible.
-Iron tetsubo : too expensive, all attachments I play should only be playable with "supply outpost". With the exeption of "kumade" wich is not really an attachment just a card to drop for the box action cost (can be attached if necessary though) .

I did not test that deck yet.
But allright, after all, this deck is surely a very bad idea. Seems it's not reliable nor stable ; it will not work against games starting before me (Lion, crane, phoenix, dragon, and unicorns, that's a lot). I am afraid it will also have big difficulties against scorpion military chi-death.
