Charity Name a Holding Tournament- Colorado Springs, 11/1/14

Postby Yoritomo Korenaga » Thu Oct 09, 2014 8:12 pm

Greetings, samurai of Rokugan! On Saturday, November 1st, we will be hosting a charity L5R tournament to benefit cancer research at The Yellow King! Not only that, but we have received official support for this event- thanks to the one and only Daniel Dineen, this will also be a Name a Holding event!

Date: Saturday, November 1st
Time: Registration begins at 10 AM, tournament begins at 11 AM
Location: The Yellow King- 405 N. Union Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. (719) 216-9623
Entry Fee: $10 minimum donation
Format: Arc legality, along with the Emperor's Blessing rules (see below)
Charity: The Cancer Research Institute

The Yellow King will be matching all donations made, including the entry fees, up to $250. Furthermore, I personally will be matching donations up to $100.

Honor contest: Show your clan spirit! This is an open-ended honor contest. Do whatever you would like to demonstrate how much you support your clan. You can come in costume, write a haiku or short story, show off your collection of clan paraphernalia, whatever you'd like! Entries will be judged based on creativity and effort.

The Emperor's Blessing: As this is a charity tournament, the more you donate, the more strength your honor lends you! Dan Dineen has allowed us to use some additional rules for this, and those are spelled out in more detail below.

Prizes: We have a huge array of prizes to give away! So far, we have the following:
-The grand prize is, of course, the opportunity to Name a Holding.
-Also, the overall winner will receive a full daisho set.
-The Honor Contest winner will receive a large wall fan.
-Top of Clan prizes will be coming, and I'll post details when I have them finalized.

Raffle prizes:
-Two playmats of One Last Sunset, by Jason Ballard
-Two $25 gift certificates to Judge Baldwin's restaurant and brewery
-A pair of free tickets to the Antlers Hilton Thanksgiving Brunch (Which is normally $40 per plate)
-An assortment of packs and promos
-And more to come!

Also, every single prize being given away is either being donated, or purchased out of my own pocket. Every single penny that is donated as part of this tournament is going directly to charity.

This is a tremendous opportunity to do some good, and get some cool prizes out of it while we're at it. I can't wait, and I'm hoping to see you all there!

The Emperor's Blessing

As this is a charity tournament, the more you donate, the more strength your honor lends you! For every $2 you donate (including the $10 minimum donation for the entry fee), you will get one Blessing Token. Blessing Tokens can be used in game for the following player abilities:

Blessing Battle: Discard one Blessing Token to give a target opposed personality +2F or -2F.

Blessing Limited: Discard one Blessing Token to put one or more cards in your provinces at the bottom of your deck, refilling the provinces face-up.

Blessing Open: Discard one Blessing Token to draw a card, then discard a card or another Blessing Token.

Blessing Battle/Open: Discard two Blessing Tokens to straighten a target card in a unit.

Blessing Battle: Discard two Blessing Tokens to move a target personality home or, if he would be opposed, move a target personality to the current battlefield.

Blessing Battle: Discard three Blessing Tokens to bow an enemy card. Destroy it if it has no attachments.

Blessing Tokens that are not used during a game are kept, and may be used during the next game. Discarded Blessing Tokens are gone for good. However, players may make further donations in between rounds to receive the appropriate number of Blessing Tokens. All Blessing abilities are subject to the normal rules and restrictions regarding abilities (such as the Rules of Presence and Location, the rule that abilities may only be used once per turn, etc.). Blessing Tokens may never be affected by any game effect other than Blessing abilities.

Furthermore, each Blessing Token is also a raffle ticket for the many prizes we'll be raffling off!

Support your clan! Not only will we be accepting donations in-store, we will also be opening up PayPal donations for those who want to donate, but can't make it in person. PayPal donations can be pledged to support one of the nine clans, and for every $5 pledged to a clan, one Blessing Token will be added to a pool that will then be divided evenly among all the players who are playing that clan. PayPal donations will be opening up one week ahead of the tournament- October 25th- and will be ending at 11 AM on November 1st.
