They portrayed crab as crab should be portrayed. They got the smart, tactical, pragmatic side of kisada, but I don't like how they showed him to be weaker than he was in old l5r.

I actually LIKE the frailities of an old warrior. It gives him way more personality.

Yakamo I wanted to beat like a read-headed stepchild, but that's normal. :p

And they shouted out to Kuni Osako! I was very much *squee!* about that for a while, it's one of my top 5 pieces of Crab fluff.

Honestly, this was my favorite depiction of Kisada of all time. It brought him down to earth, and made him believable. Here is a man who, were he in any other Clan, would have the hard duty of trying to reign in his eldest and groom him to take over in the next few years. Instead, he is fighting demons on knees not as flexible as they used to be, with the absolute knowledge that he will one day die defending an Empire that sends letters about how it does not have the resources his Clan needs.

Kisada knowing the NAME of the woman who died killing a monster sent to fight him, and seeing in her his own daughter...

An old man lives while children die.

This is the life a Crab samurai leads.

It was okay. I liked it for what it was, an intro fic. Did a good job of establishing the characters and their personalities, but could have been a little "less stereotypical" as it certainly didn't "wow" me. I feel like the author was trying to hit the check marks of what is defined as a "Crab story", but not really adding anything beyond the margins.

The Crane story was surprising and an interesting read. (if a bit overweening) The Lion was meh. The Dragon I liked the best as it did a good job of showing who the Dragon were by "showing" rather than "telling", which I felt was what was somewhat lacking in the Crab intro story.
