And I'm sorely tempted to play a Hare again, but I've also wanted to run a pragmatist for a good long time now.

For a non-Hiruma bushi, that's just over two fingers, assuming you're not getting hit by oni or eating tainted rations or the like.

That touched by the spirit realms tengoku is more and more tempting.

So far the 3 koku of the hida pragmatist's starting package looks to be dedicated to 3 fingers of jade. And I'm then sorely tempted to take wealthy or a crab ally to get a 4th.

21 points of shadowlands to be absorbed by a three week outing says a minimum of three fingers of jade, and a burning desire to be best friends with a hiruma bushi who's going along on the trip. Or a minimum of 2 fingers for a hiruma bushi/kuni witchhunter...

Oh, how do you feel about prestidigitation as a morale boosting ability? (inspired by a fiction where hiruma todori shows the young son of Kuon a coin trick.)

ummmm...yeah. A lot. I am definitely going to take either touched by tengoku or yumi-do. The need for less jade is awesome, but I’m thinking the bigger danger is going to be the lack of void regeneration (particularly when you can take jade off of dead people, which there will surely be lots of) and the lack the ability to heal by yourself. With this in mind, two questions:

First, if touch of yumi-do lets you rest normally, will this allow you regain wounds normally with sleep as well if you are in the Shadowlands? If so a minor wound wont make someone waste a spell or risk summoning a kansen.

2nd: Are the grounds of daylight castle considered tainted? I believe with present rules it is not, so as long as you are on the premises the Shadowlands rules pertaining to void recovery and healing and summoning a kansen don’t apply.

I haven’t read any RPG mechanics recently though, so these assumptions could be entirely wrong.

Not necessarily. Amaterasu's Furnace is immune to the taint, and nothing can change that. Prior to the maw’s attack, there were safeguards on the site that kept the land of Daylight Castle pure. As I don’t know what kind of safeguards or rituals were involved or if the land was just blessed by higher beings, I can’t guarantee that these safeguards would be undone with a mere 40 years of exposure. Note this is not like Kuni lands, which prior just didn’t have taint, there were no safeguards to protect the land whatsoever.

Also, the Crab are more practical than to just let jade rot with a dead guy, nor would they allow spare weapons, armor, or even a dashio to just sit there if it can be recovered. Now the dashio would be returned reverently (or else), but any other resource that could be recovered would be redistributed (think of how many tetsubos Benjiro went through during the Destroyer war, they wouldn’t just make a new one for each use…even for someone with his badassary).
