The last one is actually relevant to the fanfic contest as well :ugeek:

Perform: Prestidigitation should work fine for boosting morale. :)

2nd: Are the grounds of daylight castle considered tainted? I believe with present rules it is not, so as long as you are on the premises the Shadowlands rules pertaining to void recovery and healing and summoning a kansen don’t apply.

Touch of Yume-do lets you rest normally, so you recover Wounds and Void Points just as if you were resting in a non-Shadowlands location.

As Shiro Hiruma is well within the Shadowlands, and has been for about forty years, the castle is indeed considered to be tainted.

Looting jade from the dead will indeed cause some Honor Loss if you're the honorable sort, but then, the Crab were always more pragmatic than honorable, weren't they?

Weapons and armour will be retrieved from the dead, but nothing else. Jade is a maybe, but that really depends on how desperate the Crab are for the Jade.

what about sleight of hand (prestidigitation), the skill and emphasis that exists: emphasis being required to use it I believe.

When Barswanian comes into play he forgets what he's doing, remove him from the game.
If Barswanian is removed from the game, place him in one of the opponent's provinces face-up. He got lost! If there is another card in the province, discard Barswanian: he forgot what he was doing again.
If Barswanian is in the discard pile, place him on the top of his owner's dynasty deck.

That'd probably be fine. Note that it's still a Low Skill, however, as "The code of Bushido flatly calls for sincerity in action, word, and thought, and such parlor tricks smack of deception and dishonesty, which no honorable samurai can abide."

We're not going to be keeping *incredibly* close track of food and water unless something terrible happens, as the Empire forces will have enough to keep everyone fed. Any extra you bring is your own personal stash, which might come in handy if some Bloodspeaker infiltrator decides to poison and/or taint the main supplies.

So we don't need to bring food? Or we should bring our own?

You only need to bring food if you want additional food above and beyond what the quartermaster has anticipated the Empire forces will require.

Hmm, i have two thoughts on this. On one hand, yay less stuff to carry. On the other, Crane rations are better quality rations!

I think we should have ten Ikoma Bards. Their only purpose to chant Crab stories of valor and praises of the Empire. If my prime character dies, I’m thinking the 2nd will be this. My chant will be so inspiring, the very taint in an oni will withhold its blessings!
medalliah wrote:So we don't need to bring food? Or we should bring our own?

Though “no, you don’t have to”at the same time all it takes is a Bakemono to hop in and take a shit in a rice barrel, and there goes a whole week of food for everyone. Traveling rations are pretty cheap (5 zeni/meal). I’d say having a few days extra is prudent for everyone.

Something that I AM curious about needing to purchase is Jade. For any Crab character I think a finger of jade should be included in their starting gear. Granted the 4th ed start pack doesn’t show this, but this rule is typically era dependent and after a look through the rulebook I couldn’t find the alternate rules.
Also, as this is a Crab funded expedition the Crab would give anyone on it jade (they don’t need the entire army becoming lost mid-rout to the castle). For those who don’t want to spend a koku on jade, can we assume that we are provided with at least a finger? This question is also incredibly important considering:
Shiro Hiruma wrote:Should a character possess jade that would normally put them above ten Jade Ranks, the first point of Shadowlands Taint absorbed by the jade ruins any jade in excess of the cap that they might be carrying in addition to its usual effects.

I'f jade is provided I'd prefer not to waste a whole koku that could be spent on arrows or gear or the Mantis tales of the Birth of Osano-Wo, particularly if it could go to waste (and indeed it might if someone gets bit or something).

Also
A hundred points of jade protection is pretty awesome, so considering the length in shadowlands is 3 weeks ( I believe I read that) simple exposure wont reduce a single finer by a quarter of it’s life if one fails every single taint save (thus I am strongly thinking touch of yumi-do is outweighing touch of Tengoku).

Oni bites, however, are a bitch (book has tn 15). If you have an earth of 2 (I’m guessing any not-crab or lion will), the solid earth roll only has 28% chance of successful save. Earth 3 is 66%. So unless people go as a Crab with Earth 4 this is how our jade is likely going to be used.

By the way, For everyone who needs it, heres a roll and keep probability chart I found online.
http://i44.tinypic.com/v7zgwl.png
I’d suggest a link to a chart be included with the resources on Shiro Hiruma, I know I use it almost every roll.

10 days = 10 points of taint = reduce jade rank by 10 = 1 finger of jade.

3 weeks = 21 days = 21 pts of taint = 21 points of jade needed = 2.1 fingers of jade = 3 fingers of jade needed.
