It has been a long time!

Eight years ago, I went looking for Hida. I didn’t say goodbyes. I didn’t settle my business. I just left. I stopped visiting the forums, answering emails, going to tournaments. L5R was at a zenith: Samurai Edition was nearing its end and anticipation for the next arc was high, the 4th Edition rpg was heading to the printers, and there were rumblings of great things on the horizon: comics, a novel, and more to be announced. But I was the lowest point in my life, and I just couldn’t keep going.

I used to own a comic store. It was a level 3 Stronghold store, partly because I got Imperial Herald subscriptions for my whole family. I ran weekly ccg tournaments for a group of 4-6 people, and I posted here a few times a day. I posted even more on the AEG forums and I was in the rpg playtest group. But my finances were awful and my marriage was falling apart. I closed the store and “got a real job” as a restaurant manager. My finances got better, but my marriage failed within a year anyway. I spent two years unable to see my kids and three more fighting for custody. I contemplated suicide more times than I can count. I knew I was no good for the community, but I always wanted to come back when I was ready. Now, it seems that community has gone.

Wherever you are, I miss you. I looked at the bottom of the screen and saw that I was the only user online, and I’ve never felt so homesick in my life. To Bob, Togeriso, Yamakori, Genji, and so many others: you were family to me, and I shouldn’t have just left. I hope some of you see this, and I hope we can connect again. Since the forum has barely half a dozen posts in the past year, I’m not likely to keep checking back. But if you see this, email me at goossensryan@gmail.com and say hi. I’ve come through the hard times and I’m stronger, wiser, and (strangely enough) happier than ever. And if the community has moved elsewhere, let me know where so I can come check it out.

This year on GenCon should be released new incarnation of Legend of the Five Rings card game by Fantasy Flight Games. So there's hope that people will come back here (and to other clan sites). So come back in August. :)

I'm glad to hear that! With the new non-collectible format, I intend to jump back in with both feet, and I hope to see some familiar faces around here then.

I still check in from time to time but there seems to be little to say. I still wear my Crab hockey jersey in public and this

still hangs in my office along with my Seven Samurai movie poster and lots of L5R Crab Clan artwork. Crab Clan for life. :HIDA:

I had to retire my L5R shirts before they started falling apart, and my banner is folded in a box somewhere. I do have L5R art framed in the house, though. I met Ben Peck and bought some prints, and his Oni no Yakamo is one of the few things I put up in my bedroom. I also have some Brian Snoddy original art displayed.

Just came back as well. I honestly thought the place was going down but glad to see it hasn't.

Those of us that stood watch on the wall, fighting the Shadowlands are indeed a band of brothers. I feel the sane way about many of you. :HIDA: :HIDA: :HIDA:
