Tokens: Modifiers or Bonuses & Penalties

Postby wrongspeedy » Wed Oct 29, 2014 11:38 am

Cards like breaking the rhythm cannot negate modifiers like weapons and armors. But under the comprehensive rules for tokens it makes them sound like tokens are both modifiers and bonuses & penalties.

So my question is whether or not breaking the rhythm can negate force bonuses from cards like stones of purity or the dragons tongue. What about guidance in war, which does not create a token but is an attachment that modifies the force of the personality?

And if breaking the rhythm can negate those tokens can it also negate tokens that are weapons or armor?

I think your questions were mostly answered on the l5r forum at http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic. ... n#p1445038

IANYL5RL (I am not your l5r lawyer), and purely for illustration...

With ref. to comp rules 1.8:
Tokens on a card are part of its physical state (p 24)
Tokens convey its stat modifications to any card or province and these modifications are considered bonuses or penalties. Tokens are not cards and created cards are not tokens (p 62)
Spells have no force or chi stats or modifiers (p 11)

Per oracle Breaking the Rhythm recites in pertinent part:
Negate a target Personality's current Force bonuses or penalties

BtR can negate force bonuses given to personalities via spells (Dragon's Talon; Stones; presumably guidance)
BtR cannot target (created) weapons or armor and will not generally affect modifiers from weapons or armor

Thanks. I moved it over here because I wasn't sure they were gonna answer it over there. They answered it right after I moved it :p
